Heat Pumps

- Ducted air source heat pumps and ductless (Mini-Split) air source heat pumps are both types of heating and cooling systems that use a heat pump to transfer heat between the indoors and outdoors.

- The main difference between the two is that ducted systems use a network of ducts to distribute the conditioned air throughout a home, while ductless systems use individual air handlers mounted on the wall or ceiling of each room.

- Ducted heat pumps look identical to a air conditioning unit, (see picture for reference) and can also be more energy-efficient than ductless systems, as they are able to recirculate air and maintain a consistent temperature throughout a larger space. However, ductless systems have the ability to be controlled by remote, as each indoor unit comes with its own temperature control remote.

- Ultimately, the choice between a ducted or ductless system will depend on the specific needs and constraints of the home in question.

What to do if your Heat Pump is not Working:

  • Check the filter, a clogged filter restricts airflow causing the furnace to overheat and shut off.

  • Check that the thermostat is on the correct setting and that the batteries are functional.

  • Check your electrical panel for blown fuses or tripped breakers.

  • Check that the condensate drain is not clogged.

How Mini-Split Systems Work

How a Minisplit works

Is a Mini-Split right for you?

No Ductwork in your home?

Installing ductwork throughout a home can be a very costly affair. Mini-splits, on the other hand, provide an affordable heating and cooling solution for homes without existing ductwork. With mini-splits, multiple rooms can be individually controlled, making it an ideal choice for homeowners.

Considering Home Additions?

Mini-splits are a popular solution when expanding your home's footprint, as they eliminate the need for extending the existing HVAC system, saving you money and hassle.

Identifying Hot and Cold Spots

Do you have rooms that are too hot or too cold? Mini-splits can offer a solution that provides greater control and more even temperatures. These units can also improve the overall comfort level of your space as a stand-alone or complementary addition to your central HVAC system.
